Leave written feedback

Found something odd, have an idea, or noticed interesting behavior? Send a private note to the site owner. No account or email address is needed.

Messages go privately to Tangent Mile for project review. The retention period is 90 days; cleanup runs when the site or feedback service is next used. Settings are optional. Please leave out names, contact details, health information, passwords, and payment-card details. For a privacy request needing a written reply, you may include a reply address in that request. World dimensions and display size

Display size and Fullscreen enlarge the view without changing the experiment. World dimensions changes the width and height of the simulated square. A larger world spreads the same creatures and food across more space, so finding food may become harder. The view fits the whole square; dots appear smaller relative to it.

What is a brain doing here?

A neural brain reads the relative angle and distance to nearby food, its energy, and distance to the nearest wall. It chooses forward speed and turning. Each dot uses the same selected brain. Watching does not change that brain’s weights. Food, energy loss, starvation, wall reflections, and optional predation are the rules of the world.

The programmed food seeker uses hand-written steering instead. Wander and wall-steering controls affect that programmed controller; trained brains use their neural outputs. A high training fitness applies to the training conditions shown with that brain. Changing a world can produce very different results.

A useful first experiment

Run Finding food in its saved world. Observe one cycle. Change only World dimensions from 600 to 1000, Apply & restart, and compare food eaten. Then return to 600 and change only World seed. Use Save experiment or Copy test report to keep a record. Rerun repeats the active settings and seed; New seed + run changes the arrangement.

What is available in this test?

World controls, fixed-brain playback, display sizing, saved experiment files, and local test reports. The gallery contains newly trained examples from a clean lineage. Written feedback is available below. Online training, accounts, and cloud saves are later steps. Your browser can remember applied settings when you enable Remember settings; save a JSON experiment for a portable copy.

Training continues in the desktop lab: New starts fresh, Continue adds generations, and a named checkpoint preserves the population and champion. Exported brain JSON can be loaded here for playback. Loading it here does not publish it to the gallery.

Privacy & site information

About this project. Tangent Mile is an independent hobby project operated in the United States. The person responsible for information collected by this site is identified in Operator details below. To contact the operator, choose Feedback → Privacy or data request. If you need a written reply, include a reply email address in that request; no address is needed to use the simulation or the private access/deletion controls below. This site was built with ChatGPT and hosted using ChatGPT Sites. OpenAI does not endorse the project. It is not directed to children under 13 or below the applicable age of digital consent.

What stays on your device. The simulation and neural playback run in your browser. Imported files, brains, and recent-run history stay in memory for the current page session unless you explicitly download a file. They are not uploaded by importing. World settings and display size are stored only when you enable Remember settings. Switching it off or using Forget saved settings removes this site's saved preferences. Settings storage expires after 180 days without using or updating the saved preferences. The small preference record tells the site whether you opted in. Nothing is saved by default.

Your storage choice. Remember settings is optional consent to save preferences in this browser, and is off on a new visit. You can withdraw it at any time without losing access to the simulation.

Feedback and purposes. We store the message, category, submission time, receipt and a temporary anti-spam identifier. Current world settings, controller name and simulation results are sent only if you tick Include settings. Brain files and local files are never attached. For new project feedback, we ask for consent to store the message and review it to improve this project, including review using ChatGPT. The database records the consent notice version and submission time. You may decline and continue using the simulation. Withdraw by deleting your submission or contacting the operator; withdrawal does not undo processing already lawfully completed. Earlier test submissions were collected under legitimate interests and are not retroactively recorded as consented. Necessary site security relies on legitimate interests; handling applicable privacy-rights requests relies on legal obligations and does not require agreement to project-feedback review. Optional browser storage uses your consent.

Cookies and security. Our application adds no advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking. It creates the necessary sim_feedback cookie only when you send feedback or use feedback privacy controls. This secure, HttpOnly, same-site cookie protects the form and lasts up to one day. A keyed identifier derived from the connection IP (or cookie) changes daily to limit spam; raw IP addresses are not saved in our feedback database. These identifiers are removed from database rows after 48 hours at the next cleanup. Hosting providers may separately process IP addresses, request details and security cookies to deliver and protect the service; their operational retention is outside these application controls.

Recipients and international processing. Feedback is available to the operator and authorised service providers, not other visitors. The operator may review feedback using ChatGPT. Information moved into a ChatGPT conversation is also subject to that product's privacy terms, account controls and retention, separately from website hosting. The operator should minimise or redact personal information before review; deleting the database message does not delete an existing conversation. OpenAI processes hosted data under the ChatGPT Sites Data Processing Addendum, using hosting providers including Cloudflare. Processing may take place in the United States and other countries; this site does not promise EU-only storage. The DPA describes safeguards for applicable EEA/Swiss transfers, including adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses, and the UK Addendum for applicable UK transfers. See its subprocessor list and the OpenAI Privacy Policy. We do not sell submissions or use them for advertising.

Retention. The retention period for feedback and privacy-request messages is 90 days. Records become unavailable to the private access tool after that period and are deleted from the active database when the site or feedback service is next requested. Cleanup is request-driven, not a background timer; if there are no requests, physical deletion waits until the next request. You can delete your submission sooner using its private management code. Provider backups and operational logs follow provider retention rules; this tool deletes the active application record, not every provider backup or an earlier ChatGPT conversation. Any separately retained copy must be handled by the operator when responding to your request.

Your rights and contact. Where applicable, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, or object to processing, and withdraw consent for optional storage. Use your private code below for an immediate copy or deletion. For corrections, earlier submissions without a private code, a lost code, or other requests, contact the operator through Feedback → Privacy or data request with your reference, approximate submission time and request. Include a reply address if you need a written response. Do not send identity documents or the private management code. A reference helps locate a message but does not by itself prove ownership; proportionate verification may be needed before disclosure. Applicable GDPR requests must be answered within one month, subject to permitted extensions. You may complain to your local data protection authority; see the EU/EEA authority directory. We do not profile visitors or make decisions about people with legal or similarly significant effects.

Operator details

James Robertson, operating Tangent Mile in the United States, is the controller for information collected by this independent hobby project. For privacy questions or data-rights requests, use Feedback → Privacy or data request as described above.

Access or delete my feedback

Paste the private management code shown after sending your message. It grants access to that submission only. A public receipt/reference cannot be used here. These controls do not require an account or email.

Tracking choices and notice changes. This application does not sell personal information, use targeted advertising, or track visitors across other websites. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals do not enable optional storage or change these already restrictive practices. Hosting/security processing remains as described above. Changes to this notice will be dated here; we will explain material changes before introducing a new use requiring a fresh choice.

External services. Rust, Steam, and server connections have their own privacy practices and terms. They are contacted when you follow their links, not embedded as trackers. Purchases take place on Steam. This is a community server, not an official Facepunch or Valve project. The simulation is experimental and is not for consequential decisions.
